83. Le Grand Ours.

Grizzly Bear - "Graceland (Paul Simon cover)"

This is a brand new image from a feature film called "The Great Bear." This project, slated for a Winter 2011 release, is the brain-child of Danish production house Copenhagen Bombay, co-founded by Princess-director Anders Morgenthaler. The synopsis goes something like this:

"Jonathan, 11, usually spends his vacations alone with his grandfather who lives on the edge of a vast forest populated by mythical animals. This year his kid sister Sophie joins him. But it’s not cool to be stuck with a little sister, so he does what he can to avoid her. He succeeds entirely too well: Sophie is kidnapped by a giant, 1000-year-old bear. Now, Jonathan has to venture into the heart of the forest to confront the strange beings that dwell there and retrieve his sister."

There's a lot of ground to cover between now and Winter 2011, but the project looks so enchanting that it's no wonder we hear about it years in advance. I've noticed movies are advertised earlier and earlier these days with release dates looming anywhere from nine months to three years in the distance. But the turn around from theater to DVD is only about three to four months, tops, these days. Maybe they advertise earlier to get us on board with their marketing tie-ins sooner. Le sigh. Capitalism.
